The Art of the Slow Down
Slow Down
There’s an art to it, you know… the art of slowing down.
In this day and age, in the year 2025, we thrive on going, going, gone. Am I right? Most days, what we see on the internet or TV or all the things we watch, people are constantly on the move, and it’s almost praised. It’s as if being busy equals being valid. But where does that leave us? What does that leave us with?
Sometimes, the best answer to your problems is simply slowing down.
So how do we do it?
In the morning, what’s the first thing you do? Do you grab your phone, scroll, and launch right into your day? Always on the move, never taking a second to just be? I’d like to offer something different: instead of hopping straight onto your phone, just sit for a moment. Breathe. Drink some water. Feel the quiet before the day begins.
At work, are you finding balance? Are you taking your actual breaks, the ones you’re legally allowed to take, and using them to step outside, stretch, breathe in fresh air?
And at night, do you set aside a little time to reflect? To think about your day, about the moments that made you smile and the ones that tested you? To notice how you showed up for yourself and for others?
Slowing down in a busy world is a luxury now. But it’s a luxury we have to protect. Putting ourselves first shouldn’t be a privilege, it should be a priority. Our bodies and minds need time to rest, to recover from the noise of the world the moment we wake up.
I work at a printing factory right now, and I try to make sure I step outside every day on my break. I sit in the fresh air, stretch, and just breathe. That’s how I reclaim a moment of slowness.
When I put my kids to bed and they cuddle up next to me, that’s another slow moment. A moment I feel deeply.
We can all find these small moments if we start paying attention. Some things we do mindlessly, but slowing down means bringing thought and care into the simple things: the words we speak, the breaths we take, the company we keep.
Enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. Sit in gratitude. Take a step back and look around at the life you’ve built.
Be thankful.
Be present.
Breathe.
That’s how we reclaim the moments that are ours. That’s how we find a sliver of rest. That’s how we begin a journey of taking our time back.
Love, Hallie 💕
